Roe Deer
(Capreolus capreolus)

Trivia: Felix Salten's 1928 book 'Bambi' was originally about the life of a roe deer. It only became the more, some would argue, 'Impressive' Red Deer, by the influence of a certain Mr Disney.

Deer, of most varieties, are very skittish animals. In the open you usually see them bounding over fields away from you, having seen you, or scented you, long before you see them. Getting close to them in open country is difficult. Unless you know their usual daily paths & have patience to lay, unseen, downwind & wait for them to approach.

The images below however, are the result of chance encounters, usually early morning in wooded areas. Simple accidental encounters whilst taking slow, quiet walks through & around the woodlands. It is a rather magical moment. Usually occurring in just enough time for both Deer and Photographer to cross paths, realisation to wake the dormant brain, take a photo or two, and leave quietly before any stress is caused.
